19TH CENTURY SHAVING BOX WITH MIRROR AND RAZOR

$100.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 772-55

The closed walnut box meas. approx. 12.00 x 6.00 x 5.00 inches. Exterior has the usual minor scattered scuff marks and signs of wear. Front has a key hole but the key is now gone.

Lifting the lid on its iron hinges exposes a 5.50 x 6.25 inch mirror inside a recessed panel. The top of the mirror is held to the lid by brass hinges and can be retained within the opened lid by a brass turnkey at bottom, or if desired, the bottom edge of the mirror can be let loose so it swings forward allowing the user to set the mirror closer. The mirror base will then rest on two wooden “shoes” in the bottom of the box.

With the box is a razor that has a homemade wooden handle that is well done and a slightly rusty and dirty blade that is marked “JOSEPH SMITH & SONS CELEBRATED RAZOR” with a number below it that is partially obscured by rust.

Nice for living history or for decoration. [AD] [PH:L]
