EARLY FLINTLOCK MUSKET FOR MILITIA MADE BY I. DANA

$2,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 1032-163

This is an attractive flintlock musket in very good condition.

The round barrel is approximately 42.75” long and held to the stock by pins. This smoothbore barrel has a bayonet lug on the top side near the muzzle. There is moderate pitting near the breech. There are no obvious signs to indicate whether this was “reconverted” to flint; the touch hole is of a fairly small diameter.

This musket lock plate is marked "CANTON / I. DANA" with much of the top line worn off. Dana worked in Canton, Massachusetts and manufactured a variety of armory pattern muskets. Hammer and frizzen are strong and mechanically fine.

Plain brass mounts: butt plate, trigger guard, ramrod pipes, nose cap, and side plate. The side plate in engraved with initials “S.M.M.”

Full length stock of walnut with attractive tiger striping. Some minor burn out behind the hammer and pan. Heavy varnish finish. Complete with original ramrod.

This is a very nice New England militia musket.  [jet] [ph:L]
