The Krag-Jorgensen is a repeating bolt action rifle designed by in the late 19th century. It was adopted as a standard arm by Norway, Denmark, and the United States. Around 500,000 "Krags" were produced at the Springfield Armory in Massachusetts from 1894 to 1904. The Krag–Jorgensen rifle in .30 caliber found use in the Boxer Rebellion, the Spanish–American War and the Philippine–American War. Two thousand rifles were taken to France by the United States Army 10th–19th engineers (railway) during World War I; but there is no evidence of use by front-line units during that conflict.

Offered here is the Model 1896 rifle in excellent condition. A total quantity of 62,000 were manufactured between 1896 and 1898. 30” round barrel, blued. High profile blade sight at muzzle. Adjustable rear sight. Bore is bright and clean with strong rifling. Two barrel bands; lower has sling swivel, and upper has stacking swivel and bayonet lug.

Receiver retains some original colors with right side loading door. Left side strongly stamped “U.S. / MODEL 1896.  SPRINGFIELD ARMORY.  57221”.  Bolt is clean with straight handle.

All other gun metal parts show even, light wear and retain some bluing. Hinged door for cleaning rod is in butt plate, no cleaning rod.

Oil finished walnut stock is also in good condition with just light dings and scratches. Strong inspector’s cartouche on left side with 1898 date. A script “P” within a circle is stamped below the trigger guard on the underside.

Overall this is a nice rifle.  [jet] [ph:L]
