This large, heavy-barreled, half-stock, bench rest, target rifle is a custom longarm in very good condition.

The .44 caliber percussion rifle measures 43.75” in overall in length. The 29.00” long heavy barrel is octagon in shape with a fluted muzzle. Barrel retains most of its original finish and is unmarked. Muzzle has a mortised iron tube front sight with a notched rear sight mounted on top of the barrel. Bore is excellent. Barrel breech has a bolster with a swirled decoration and a small fence. Breech plug bears a delicately engraved scrollwork decoration. Nipple is original.

Lockplate is flush with rounded ends and is unmarked. Action works but is stiff. Weapon has double set triggers.

This distinct appearing, muzzle-loading rifle is fitted with a fine walnut half-stock that has a German silver nose cap, buttstock and triggerguard. Buttstock has extensions on each edge to lock into the shooters shoulder. Each of these extensions ends in a round quillon. The triggerguard has highly decorative large finger rests. The lock screw has a small German silver escutcheon while the barrel wedge-pin has an oval on each side. The left side of the large butt has a large cheek rest. The wood is dark and is free of cracks and shows some light scratches. Wrist is crosshatched.

There I no rammer nor is there a provision for one.

An attractive weapon in very nice condition that just needs a little work on the action. [ad]
