This Harpers Ferry arsenal specimen is a Model 1841 Hall’s percussion rifle in excellent overall condition. A single-shot, breechloading longarm, it measures 52¾” long with a 32 5/8” long round barrel. Chambered for a .52 caliber round, breechblock pivots upward for loading and is released via the ‘fish tail’ lever catch that protrudes from the bottom of the stock forward of the trigger bow.

All iron mountings and the barrel retains much of its original factory acid-browning. Barrel was protected by a lacquer coating that gives a pleasing, smooth hard finish with just slight light pitting. Barrel has a small front sight that doubles for the angular bayonet. Open plain notch rear sight sits atop the receiver surface in front of the upper barrel band. Both sights are offset to the left to allow for sighting past the old flintlock pan and frizzen. Barrel bore is deeply rifled with seven lands and grooves set in a clockwise direction. Rifling is dusty, dirty with light pitting.

Breechblock / receiver retains no case colors. Top flat of breechblock is stamped with “H. FERRY / US / 1841”. Stampings are clear. Black walnut full-length stock is 49¾” long and is in very good overall condition. Has normal dings and dents due to age and use. No cartouche visible. Entire stock exhibits a dark, pleasing patina. The long 13” iron triggerguard plate has the large guard bow. One iron sling swivel is riveted at the very end of the guard with a second swivel riveted at the middle barrel band. Double-branched upper band tight.  Rifle missing its ramrod. Barrel is secured to the stock via three-barrel bands each using a pin fastener. No band springs. Mechanics crisp.
