This leather accoutrement is an English-style, Civil War-era flap holster in very good condition save for the closure strap that is missing. Artifact is a rugged, machine-made specimen that measures over 14” long with its flap closed. Holster easily accommodates a large martial .36 caliber Navy Colt or similar sidearm. The body is cut from a large, single piece of thick, black bridle leather that is folded over and machine-stitched to form the main body. Piece is void of maker stampings. Exterior leather body is remarkably smooth with tight and strong original stitching. Body underside exhibits light crazing and a stitched, single 1½” wide belt loop strap. Leather flap is strong but does exhibit moderate cracking with some flaking to the exterior hinge area. Closure tab has torn away with only a small 1” long section remaining stitched to the flap. Holster body strongly retains a small, tapered, cylindrical brass finial. All seam stitching is original and tight. Holster muzzle retains its original bottom plug that is tight and secure. A remarkable English leather revolver holster in very good original condition.
