COLT MODEL 1862 POLICE REVOLVER WITH MATCHING NUMBERS IN GOOD CONDITION

$1,195.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 31-1479

This personal sidearm, in good condition, is a .36 caliber, Colt Model 1862 Police revolver. This five-shot cap and ball weapon has matching serial numbers of # 13088 indicating its production in late 1862.  The five-shot, rebated and fluted cylinder has been heavily cleaned and exhibits all its original nipples.  All safety pins hammered down but visible.  Cylinder is matched with a 6½” long barrel and a creeper-style loading lever.  A clear “ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW YORK US AMERICA” marks the top of the barrel.  All gunmetal has lost its original finish and casehardening over the years.

The standard “COLTS / PATENT” is stamped on the left side of the frame while the brass triggerguard has the “36 CAL” stamp on the same side.  Inspector mark “C” on left side of the trigger guard.  Revolver is mechanically good with strong action.  Grips are of one-piece, varnished walnut, strong and tight and exhibit slight shrinkage.  Almost all-original varnish is gone on the grips, which exhibits scattered dings. Frame screws are good and not buggered up. This original Police Revolver is a good specimen of a desirable Colt percussion firearm at a reasonable price. A nice addition to any sidearm collection or personal display.
