Manufactured by the Starr Arms Company of New York City, this cap and ball percussion arm is an original double-action Model 1858 Army revolver in good condition.  These weapons were in production from the late 1850’s through the early 1860s with a total of some 23,000 units produced at the company’s Binghamton and Yonkers New York facilities. This Starr DA revolver has been heavily cleaned and shows no original factory bluing.

Piece has no government cartouches on the grips but they do show a single, small letter “M” on the left grip and on the recoil shield behind the cylinder. Matching serial numbers on the cylinder bears serial # 3202.Patent date stampings on the frame are gone from have been cleaned off. This sidearm is a .44 caliber, double action model with a 6-shot unrebated cylinder, a 6” round barrel and with nipples protruding from the back of the cylinder.  The clearly stamped serial number of “3202” appears on the cylinder, frame, and hammer rest. Hammer bears serial # 199.

Grips are of one-piece walnut and in excellent condition.   Screws are original with some slightly buggered. Mechanics are strong. This original Civil War Starr Double Action Model 1858 Army percussion revolver is a classic sidearm to add to any collection.
