Offered is one of the 37,063 Colt army single action revolvers that were supplied to the U.S. Government in 45 caliber with a 7-½ inch barrel. It is also one of the approximately 16,100 that were altered by either Springfield Armory or by Colt between 1898 and 1903. The barrel has been shortened to 5 ½ inches and refinished. The frame is marked with serial number 1514 . It has the U.S. and the 2 line patent date on the left side. Serial number 8239 is on the trigger guard and 3336 on the cylinder. Sub-inspector mark (A) is visible on the cylinder and trigger guard.  Mixed serial numbers are common on the U.S. marked single actions refinished at Colt.

Patina is a gunmetal blue with some areas of very light pitting on the cylinder. Areas on the barrel have signs of light surface rust. Grips are one piece walnut. Bore is bright with strong rifling.
