These revolvers were manufactured by the Savage Revolving Firearms Company in Middle town, Conn. Approximately 20,000 were manufactured during the civil war with 11,984 going to the army and navy. All were 36 caliber, six shot revolvers with 7 1/8 inch octagonal barrel. The loading lever is a hinged type located under the barrel. The hammer, lever, trigger and trigger guard was casehardened and the rest of the metal was blued. Serial numbers were stamped on the frame and side plate. The grips are two piece walnut. The framestrap was marked SAVAGE R.F.A. CO /H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856 / JAN. 18, 1859, MAY 15, 1860.

Offered is serial number 1632. It is a gunmetal gray finish with slight traces of casehardening. Left grip is martially marked with a cartouche. Cylinder is serial number 13403. Action work good with occasional misalignment of the cylinder. Nice example of a Savage revolver.
