$1,595.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2024-1935

Manufactured by the Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Company of Middletown, Connecticut, this original percussion sidearm is a double-action Navy Model revolver (.36 caliber) in very good condition overall.

These type weapons were in production from 1861 through 1865 with a total of 20,000 produced. This Savage revolver is in nice condition. Some minor traces of blue and case colors remain amid light wear and under some scattered patches of very light surface rust. Strong maker markings on the flat of the top strap that reads “SAVAGE R.F.A. CO. MIDDLETOWN, CT / H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856 / JANUARY 18, 1859, MAY 15, 1860”. Sidearm is a .36 caliber double-action model with a 6-shot rounded cylinder, a 7” long octagonal barrel with hinged type loading lever assembly beneath. Barrel retains its brass cone-type front sight. Revolver frame is flat-sided and fitted with a heart-shaped trigger/lever guard. Two-piece walnut grips show wear and has a pleasing dark patina. No inspector’s cartouches visible. The round cylinder is unmarked and the nipples protrude from the side of the cylinder.

Mechanically strong and tight. Most of the Savage Navy revolver production went to government contracts for both the US Army and the US Navy branches. This original Civil War Savage D.A. Navy Model revolver is a fine original specimen that would complement any gun collection.  [jet][ph:L]
