Item Code: 766-2020

This is a nice Model 1851 Colt Navy revolver. It is a .36 caliber revolver with six-shot cylinder, a 7.5” octagonal barrel with attached loading lever, and brass trigger guard and back strap. Serial numbers for this “Fourth” model began at 85000 and ended around number 215350. This specimen is serial numbered on all parts (including wedge), 111290, which was manufactured around the third quarter of 1861.

The top of the barrel is strongly marked “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA”. The left side of the frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT”.  A small sub-inspector stamp is on the brass trigger guard. All gun metal has a nice pewter tone with evidence of light use. There are a few minor scratches. Small areas of original bluing and case colors can be found. The cylinder features the engraved cylinder scene of a battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy as well as patent dates and serial number. The safety pins on cylinder are hammered down. Mechanically strong and crisp. The grip straps are brass with a mellow patina.

The original grips are one-piece walnut. Lower edge on left side exhibits some minor chipping. No inspector cartouches on grip.

An original and complete model 1851 Colt revolver in nice condition.  [jet] [ph:L]
