A Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in complete and in near unfired condition. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt Third Model Dragoon pistols. This revolver is of 1867 manufacture, which likely explains its excellent condition.
This revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. All matching serial numbers (164195) on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder, and even on the wedge. Serial number dates the manufacture to early 1867.
Sidearm is without the recoil shield cutouts on the frame or the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are excellent. Barrel address, “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA” is light but completely visible. The rolled cylinder scene remains clearly visible and finely detailed. Patent date and serial number are bold. “COLTS / PATENT” is clearly stamped on the left side of the frame. Screw heads are untouched. Original nipples are good; safety pins remain undamaged.
Patina on gunmetal is overall a nice plum color with original blue in recessed areas; no surface pitting anywhere.
Brass trigger guard has a mellow patina with perhaps 30% silver plate remaining. Grips are original one-piece varnished walnut in perfect condition. No cartouches.
This is a classic, “Colt Army” revolver in near perfect condition, albeit of post-war production. [jet] [ph:L]
