Exceptional example of the 7.65mm FN Model 1922 service pistol used by the Germans in World War II. Following the occupation of Belgium in 1940, the Germans seized the Fabrique Nationale (FN) factory and continued to produce Model 1922 and Model 1935 Hi-Power pistols under Wehrmacht supervision. Designated the “P.626(b)” by the Germans, the principal markings on this example include: “57717b” (serial number); “FABRIQUE NATIONALE D’ARMES DE GUERRE HERSTAL BELGIQUE” (Manufacturer); “BROWNING’S PATENT DEPOSE”; eagle over “WaA140” (German military acceptance stamp).
The condition is exceptional with 99% of the blue remaining; really Like New and Unissued! The bore is perfect and perhaps only test rounds were fired through it. The pistol is fully functioning. All the serial numbers match and the magazine is original. The wooden grips are exceptional with no dings or scratches (wooden grips were introduced in 1942 due to increased production requirements).
As designated by the slide legend, the pistol was manufactured by Fabrique Nationale (FN), Herstal (suburb of Liège), Belgium. An estimated 462,000 P.626(b) pistols were made for the German military between December 1941 and August 1944; based on the serial number, this pistol was made in December 1943.
Invented by famed firearms designer John Browning, the Model 1922 was introduced as a military pistol only and FN never sold the pistol commercially. Not long after completion and acceptance of the Model 1922, Browning died at his work bench in 1926.
The Germany army issued more pistols to service personnel (per percentage of the total force) than any other nation in World War II. To meet this demand, the manufacture of superior designs fielded by defeated armies continued under Wehrmacht auspices. FN P.626(b) pistols were therefore highly coveted by officers of the German army and Waffen SS.
German M1922 / P.626(b) pistols in Like-New condition rarely come on the market! Excellent opportunity to own a collector grade classic World War II pistol made in late 1943 before the D-Day landings occur! [sk] [PH:L]
