This revolver bears serial #29836 showing it was made in early 1881.
This .38 caliber weapon has a 4.50-inch-long barrel that is semi-bright showing hints of the original blue near the muzzle. There is no visible pitting. Top of the barrel is faintly marked “COLT’S PT. FA. MFG. CO. HARTFORD, CT. USA” over “DEPOT 14 PALL MALL LONDON” thus showing the weapon was produced for the British market. White metal blade front sight is present above the muzzle. Bore is clean with very good rifling. Working ejection rod is present.
Frame was originally casehardened but now it is mostly gray. Left side forward is lightly stamped with three patent dates of 1871, ’74 and ‘75. Frame screwheads show only minor wear. Fluted six-shot cylinder bears British proof marks (as does the bottom of the barrel) and the action operates smoothly. Loading gate operates proper but bears the last three digits of a different serial number, “321.” Despite this it matches the rest of the weapon in appearance perfectly.
Grips are checkered hard rubber. Trigger guard retains much original blue. [AD] [ph:L]
