These interesting revolvers were made at the Plant Manufacturing Company in New Haven, CT. Merwin & Bray where the company’s agents and financiers.
This is a Plant revolver, second model, with iron frame. All gun metal has matching dark gray patina with scattered patches of blue and Adarker spotting overall. Serial #653 is found on the butt strap. Strong maker's stamp with address on top of barrel, “Plant’s Mfg. Co. New Haven, CT.” Strong “Merwin & Bray” stamp on left side of barrel. Light patent stamp on cylinder. Walnut grips original and good.
Mechanics are crisp and strong. Cartridge ejector rod intact.
A nice secondary Civil War revolver that used patented cupfire cartridges. [jet] [ph:L]
