A less encountered Civil War revolver, this is the Colt Pocket Model of Navy Caliber in very good original condition. Also known to older collectors as the Model 1862 Pocket Navy and the Model of 1853. Fladerman believes that production ran from 1863 through 1872.
This nice, crisp revolver is a .36 caliber, three-screw model with a 5-shot rebated cylinder and a 4.5” long octagonal barrel. All matching serial numbers (19575) on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder, and even on the wedge. Serial number dates the manufacture to mid-1863.
Mechanics are crisp and strong. Barrel address, “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA” is strong. Rolled cylinder scene remains quite visible. Patent date and serial number are bold. The “COLTS / PATENT” and “36 CAL” marks on the left side are also strong. Original nipples are in good condition; safety pins are mostly hammered down.
Brass trigger guard and back strap has a mellow golden patina with just minor traces of silver plating remining. Patina on gunmetal is an overall dark plum brown with traces of the original finish.
Grips are original one-piece walnut in very good condition.
This is a classic, war-time production Colt revolver in very nice condition. [jet] [ph:L]
