NICE REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER

$2,500.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 864-12

This is a very good example of the famous Model 1858 Remington Army Revolver. Approximately 122,000 of these were manufactured between the years 1863-1873.

This is a percussion, six-shot, .44 caliber revolver with an 8” octagonal barrel. The maker’s stamp, “PATENTED SEPT. 14 1858 / E. REMINGTON & SONS. ILION NEWYORK. U.S.A. / NEW-MODEL”, remains clearly visible on the top flat of the barrel.  This particular pistol is serial numbered 97611. That number appears under the barrel and on the frame under the grips. Most other parts have small sub-inspector’s stamps, even on bottoms of grips.

Mechanics are perfect.  Cylinder features safety notches between cones.  All of the percussion nipples are present and in good order.  Gun metal is dark gray in color with very scattered light pitting and just a few traces of original blue finish. Brass trigger guard wears mellow patina.

Walnut grips are original and in very good condition with a nice cartouche on the left grip.

This is a very nice, used example of a Civil War-era Army revolver.   [jet] [ph:L]
