Six-shot revolver with a 2 ½ inch barrel in good operating condition.
The barrel has an excellent bore. The rifling is strong and clean. The nickel plating has worn off most of the barrel surface but still visible at the top is the maker’s mark of “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG.CO. / HARTFORD CT. U.S.A.” in readable condition. The left side of the barrel has a complete but faint marking of “COLT D.A. .38.”
The frame and cylinder retain about 60% of the nickel finish. Left side shows more wear than the other. The left side of the frame also has three clearly stamped patent dates but no rampant Colt stamping. Action works properly. Frame screws show light wear. Hammer retains much of the original blue as does the trigger.
The bird head handle has hard rubber checkered grips in good condition with a rampant Colt on each side.
Revolver bears serial number 43149 throughout. Serial number puts production about the middle of 1883. [AD] [ph:m]
