Post-war bust view wearing civilian clothing. Printed at the bottom of the image is “Corp’l JOHN A. BARKER, Co. C.” Section of lined paper affixed to reverse with period ink inscription: “Corpl. / John A. Barker / Co. C 2nd Regt. N.H.V. / Paid 50”.  No photographer’s mark.

Overall very good condition. Minor scattered wear and staining to edges of mount.

Born in 1842, Barker was a 19 year old resident of Manchester, Nh when he enlisted as a Private on 5/20/61.  Promoted to Corporal, date not given. POW at Bull Run, 7/21/61 (paroled). Wounded 7/2/63 at Gettysburg (head wound). Hospitalized 7/10/63 at Satterlee Hospital in Philadelphia; 3/1/64 hospitalized at De Camp Hospital, David’s Island, NY Harbor. Discharged for disability on 6/7/64 at David’s Island. Died on 9/23/1907 in Manchester, NH and is buried there in Valley Cemetery.  [ld] [ph:L]
