REMINGTON 1861 ARMY REVOLVER

$1,695.00 SOLD

Item Code: 490-2966

This is an example of the 1861 Remington “Old Model” Army Revolver. Approximately 6,000 of these were manufactured in 1862 between production of the Remington-Beals and the Remington New Model.

This is a percussion, six-shot, .44 caliber revolver with an 8” octagonal barrel. The maker’s stamp, “PATENTED DEC. 17, 1861 / MANUFACTURED BY REMINGTONS, ILION, N.Y.” remains lightly visible on the top flat of the barrel.  This particular pistol is serial numbered 10812. That number appears under the barrel, on the back of the cylinder, on the side of the backstrap, and penciled on the inside of both grips. Most other parts have small sub-inspector’s stamps.

Mechanics are perfect.  Cylinder with safety notches between cones and a New Model style loading lever indicates later 1862 production adjustments.  All of the percussion nipples are present and in good order.  Gun metal has a gray/brown color overall with scattered light pitting. Brass trigger guard.

Walnut grips are original and in very good condition with a nice cartouche on the left grip.

This is a very good example of a Civil War-era Army revolver.   [jet] [ph:L]
