MODEL 1860 COLT ARMY REVOLVER

$1,050.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 766-1457

All-original Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver. In production from 1860 through 1873, these handguns were the successor to the Colt 3rd Model Dragoon pistols. The Model 1860 Army was the predominant sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 Colt revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This revolver is a .44 caliber, three-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. All matching serial numbers (117099) on the barrel, frame, trigger guard, butt strap, cylinder, and even on the wedge. Serial number dates the manufacture to mid-1863. All gun metal is gray with moderate dark spotting and light pitting.

Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the base of the butt plate. Mechanics are crisp and strong. Barrel address, “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW - YORK U.S. AMERICA” is strong. Portions of cylinder scene are visible amid pitting and dark patina on cylinder. Patent date and serial number on cylinder are clearly visible. The “COLTS / PATENT” mark on the left side is present but also covered by a darker spot. Original nipples are in good condition. Two of the safety pins are hammered down; others remain in good shape.

Brass trigger guard shows no traces of silver plating. Brass has a mellow patina.

Grip is original one-piece walnut with light wear but in overall good condition. A cartouche remains on both sides of the grip. Some minor dings on butt.

This is a classic, war-time production “Colt Army” revolver.  [jet] [ph:L]
