Item Code: 30-2223

The fascine knife was a side arm / tool issued to 17th, 18th, and 19th century light infantry and artillery.

It served both as a personal weapon and as a camp tool for clearing brush and small growth as well as for cutting fascines (bundles of sticks used to strengthen the sides of trenches or earth ramparts).

Heavy hand-forged iron blade shows light wear and pitting. Curved J-shaped blade has additional 3 ½” straight cutting edge on top. Tang runs through a turned wood handle and extra length is peened back over the end of the grip. Handle has a single 2” long crack on underside, otherwise wood remains solid.

Knife measures approximately 13 ½” long overall. Blade measures 8 ¼” long x 3 ¼” at widest point.  [jet]
