Manufactured sometime in the fourth quarter of 1854, this choice Model 1851 Navy revolver bears all matching serial numbers 39909 including the wedge and wood grips. This six-shot .36 caliber cap and ball percussion revolver was one of 215,000 such firearms made and features an un-rebated cylinder with a 7 ½” long octagonal barrel. The rolled engraved naval engagement scene of the Republic of Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy is very strong and sharp. The date of the engagement is also present.

Two of the safety pins intact, the rest hammered down. Barrel address reads: “ADDRESS SAM^L COLT NEW YORK CITY”, sharp and crisp. All edges of the barrel very sharp with nice smooth surface and light gray patina. Original loading lever has traces of the original blue; all edges sharp. Traces of the case colors remain on the frame; strong “COLT’S/PATENT” stamping on left side of frame. Nice smooth surface. Varnished one piece wood grips with matching serial number fit perfect. Edges sharp with very minor wear.

Most of the silver wash on the brass backstrap intact as is the triggerguard. All screws original and in fine condition. Only the wedge screw is a modern reproduction. Mechanics are perfect. Period lanyard ring added to bottom of frame. An overall wonderful civilian Navy revolver with very sharp edges, smooth surface with faint traces of blue/case colors present. Very strong cylinder scene very seldom seen on today’s market.
