The Whitney Navy revolver was made from the late 1850’s to the early 1860s and saw extensive use in the Civil War.
This revolver is serial number 19,106. It is .36 caliber with a 7.75 inch barrel and a 6-shot round cylinder. The surface of the revolver is gun metal gray with moderate to heavy scattered mottling on the barrel, frame and cylinder. There are also some signs of cleaning.
The octagonal barrel has no visible markings. Bore is dark but the rifling is good.
The cylinder has no visible scene. The action is good. Cylinder indexes properly. Hammer holds at half and full cock and falls properly. When at full cock there is very little, if any, play in the cylinder. All nipples are original.
The walnut grips are in good condition with a faint military inspector’s cartouche on the left side. Trigger guard is brass.
All the screw heads on the frame and the grips show light wear.
Loading lever has wedged shaped latch and matches the barrel and the frame in color. [ad]
