MODEL 1861 COLT NAVY

$3,250.00 SOLD

Item Code: 906-08

This is a beautiful Model 1861 Colt Navy revolver. This is a .36 caliber revolver with 6 shot cylinder, a 7 ½” long round barrel with attached loading lever, brass frame with round trigger guard. Serial numbers for this model began at 1 in 1861 and ended at number 38,843 in 1873. This specimen is serial number 8347 which was manufactured in 1862. The top of the barrel is marked “ADDRESS SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA” and the left side of the frame is marked “COLTS / PATENT”. The cylinder has a nice engraved scene of a battle between the Texas Navy and the Mexican Navy, and is also marked COLTS PATENT and the serial number. Safety pins are mostly hammered down. The grip straps were made of brass plated with silver but the silver is mostly gone. The original grips are one piece varnished walnut. The serial number is found on the barrel, frame, cylinder, trigger guard, and back strap and they all match.  Mechanically strong.  Gun metal is overall dark gray with scattered areas (that were blued) running darker. Brass is clean with trace remnants of silver plating.  Wood shows only the lightest wear.

An original and complete model 1861 Colt revolver in wonderful condition.  [jet]
