Between 1873-1875 approx. 2,000 of these were made. These revolvers were made by converting percussion Models to either .38 rimfire.
This example is a Model 1849 pocket colt that bears serial number 626. It has a 4 ½ inch octagon barrel that retains 85% to 90% of its original blue. Top flat has a worn marking of “ADDRESS COL. SAMl COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA.” Bore has some light surface dirt and rifling is slightly worn. Wedge pin is original with matching serial number. The old ramrod channel beneath the barrel is not plugged.
Five shot cylinder retains 100% of the cylinder scene and much of its original blue.
Frame has some case colors and is stamped on the left side with crisp 1871 and 1872 patent dates.
Action works properly and indexes well. Conversion to hammer was done by drilling a hole in the top and inserting a firing pin that protrudes from the hammers face.
Grip frame is brass and walnut grips are in good condition.
Surfaces of the weapon show only light wear. [ad]
