Manufactured by the Starr Arms Company of New York City, this percussion arm is an original single-action Model 1863 Army revolver in fair to good overall condition. These weapons were in production from the late 1863 through 1865 with a total of some 32,000 produced at the company’s Binghamton and Yonkers New York facilities.
Weapon meas. a total of approx. 14.00 inches long and has a round 8.00 inch .44 barrel. Front sight is present. Barrel surface, like the rest of the weapon, is gunmetal gray with light mottling. Bore has good rifling but has some pitting.
Six shot cylinder has all original nipples and bears serial #28481 while beneath the hammer and at the hinge of the frame it bears #28779. Cylinder indexes properly and wiggles just a bit at full-cock. Action works properly.
Takedown screw is good and not stripped. Other screw heads show light wear. Frame is crisply stamped on left side “STARR ARMS CO. NEW YORK” and on the right “STARR’S PATENT JAN. 15, 1856.”
Walnut grips are very good and both sides display very faint cartouche marks. [ad]
