These double action single shot bar hammers were made from the 1830’s to the Civil War. This particular pistol is marked “ALLEN THURBER & CO.” which shows that it was produced between 1854-1856.
Barrel is round at muzzle and octagonal near the breech. It has a rifled .36 bore and meas. 2.75 inches long. Top flat is strongly marked “ALLEN THURBER & CO.” Bottom flat is stamped with #565.
Iron frame is decorated with a wide scrollwork engraving. Right side of frame has some light surface rust. The barrel, frame, wide triggerguard and bar hammer all wear a uniform gray patina.
Action works well. Original nipple present but worn down.
Original walnut grips show light wear. Frame and grip screw heads show light wear. Inner frame screw missing but grips remain tight.
