This cap and ball percussion sidearm is an early four-screw Civil War Colt Model 1860 Army revolver in excellent condition. The Colt Army revolver was the major sidearm in use by U.S. troops during the Civil War with over 127,000 revolvers acquired by the Union government during the conflict.

This sidearm is a .44 caliber, four-screw model with a 6-shot rebated cylinder and an 8” long barrel. Grips are original one-piece black walnut in very good condition. Minor edge chipping at the inside left corner. All gun metal has acquired a pleasing, gray / plum brown patina scattered with spots of oxidation. No original case colors. Sidearm has matching numbers serial #13267 on all major components including the wedge and spline.

A 4th quarter 1861 production Colt revolver, it has much of the engraved naval engagement scene visible. All five digits of the serial # and the patent date are both clearly visible on cylinder. Sidearm is equipped with recoil shield cutouts on the frame and the small notch on the backstop indicating a martial arm. Barrel address is strong. Revolver mechanics are excellent, crisp and tight. “COLTS / PATENT” stamp on the left side of the frame is clear. Frame screws excellent, not buggered up. An early Colt Model 1860 Army revolver and a fine, representative sidearm of the Civil War.
