MODEL 1862 COLT POCKET POLICE REVOLVER

$1,000.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 740-04

This .36 Pocket Police revolver has a barrel length of 4.50 inches, a five shot fluted cylinder and a matching serial number of 29948 placing its production in early 1865. It has a strong barrel stamp that reads “ADDRESS COL. SAML COLT NEW-YORK US AMERICA” and a fair “COLT’S PATENT” stamp on the left side of the frame. The left side of the trigger guard has a strong “36 CAL” stamp. The patent date marking on the cylinder is gone. The frame, loading lever and hammer still retain some case colors. The barrel and cylinder have some hints of bluing. The cylinder has it mostly in the recessed areas while the barrel has hints of it around the breech. The wedge pin has no number and may be a period replacement. The trigger guard and grip frame have lost their silver plating and are showing all brass.

The action seems to work well. The hammer holds at half-cock and the cylinder spins freely. When pulled to full-cock it indexes properly and there is very little movement in the cylinder. Hammer falls properly when squeezed. All nipples on the cylinder look to be original to the piece.

The walnut grips are in good condition but someone has carved “MEXICO” on one side and “MEX” on the other. The base of the grip has what looks to be a name. One grip flat has “KELLY” carved in it while the other has “ANOT.” The brass strip at the base of the grip shows some wear and scratches.

The overall condition of the weapon is good. The barrel has some very light scattered pitting around the muzzle and the cylinder shows some light wear. All of the screw heads look to be in good condition and the bore is good but could use cleaning.
