Between 1850 and 1870 Colt produced 325,000 Pockets in Hartford and 11,000 in London. It is a five or six shot 31-caliber percussion pistol with a 3, 4, 5 or 6-inch octagon barrel with most models having a loading lever attached. The frame is casehardened and the rest is blued. Most gripstrap are bronze plated with silver but a few were made of steel and either blued or silver plated. Trigger guards came in two sizes. The one-piece grip is made from walnut. Like other Colts the serial number is stamped on the frame, barrel, trigger guard, backstrap, cylinder and wedge. Cylinder has a stagecoach holdup rolled on the cylinder and the COLTS / PATENT stamped on the frame and the barrel is stamped with one of three addresses used in the U.S.
This is serial number 268942, manufactured in 1864. All numbers match except for the wedge. Address is ADDRESS COL SAML COLT NEW-YORK U.S. AMERICA. Patina is a blue almost black and has been re-blued. Brass has been lacquered. Action is tight. All markings are sharp including the cylinder scene.
