Manufactured by the Savage Revolving Fire-Arms Company of Middletown, Connecticut, this original cap and ball percussion sidearm is an original, double-action Navy Model revolver in good condition overall. These type weapons were in production from 1861 through 1865 with a total of 20,000 sidearms produced at the company’s Middletown location. This Savage revolver bears serial number 3481 stamped on the inside frame. No original colors remain on the weapon but it does retain strong and clear maker markings on the flat of the top strap that read “SAVAGE R.F.A. CO. MIDDLETOWN. CT / H.S. NORTH PATENTED JUNE 17, 1856 / JAN 18, 1859 / MAY 15, 1860”. Sidearm is a .36 caliber double-action model with a 6-shot rounded cylinder, a 7 1/8” long octagonal barrel. The two-piece walnut grips show signs of heavy use and no cartouche is visible. The round cylinder has been cleaned and wears no markings. Entire revolver displays evidence of moderate to heavy cleaning. Mechanically fair to good condition. This original Civil War Savage D.A. Navy Model revolver is a complete specimen at a most reasonable price.
