Used in the Gallager carbine, this .50 caliber metallic cartridge specimen is in excellent original condition. The artifact has the conical bullet attached to a cartridge case made of thin sheet brass. It did not need to be opened to expose the powder that was ignited by the external spark from a regular percussion cap passing by the small hole in the cartridge base. The .50 caliber conical bullet and its accompanying powder charge are complete and wrapped in the original brass case. Casing is tight and intact with no dents or other blemishes evident. Has a pleasing dark bronze patina. This is a fine example of a Gallager metallic cartridge and it represents a fine specimen of Civil War carbine ammunition.
