This iron, two-blade combination nipple wrench / tool, produced for the M1863 rifle musket, is in very fine condition. With the deletion of the clean-out screw in the bolster of the regulation rifle musket (change from M1861 to M1863) the small-bitted third screwdriver blade was also deleted from the regulation combination tool. One of the most common Federal gun tools of the Civil War, the M1863 Combo Tool saw heavy production. This accoutrement is complete and still quite tight. An unmarked variation, the tool measures a total of 3½” long and incorporates a cone wrench with a “U” cut and two screwdriver tips. This accoutrement bears moderate use and exhibits a pleasing, dark gray finish over the entire surface. In wonderful condition, this M1863 combination tool would fit into any Civil War firearms’ collection.
