DISPLAY OF CIVIL WAR-ERA EUROPEAN AMMUNITION

$125.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: 2024-1924

Offered here is a fine display of ten bullets and four cartridges made in Europe. Some of these were in use during the Crimean War and some were imported by the North and the South during the American Civil War. All are labeled and properly displayed in a matted Riker case.

Pistol ammunition from one maker, was often used in many different revolvers. Here are .36 caliber and .44 caliber bullets for Kerr, Adams, and Tranter revolvers as made by Robert Hayes of the Royal Navy or Eley Brothers of London, both who made “skin” cartridges. The .54 caliber Hanoverian bullet was for old European tige rifles and the .44 caliber Deane & Adams bullets for all the European revolvers.

9mm and 12 mm pinfire cartridge by several European makers featuring headstamps of “9 ELEY”, “Fusnot*Bruxelles”, and “H . B  PARIS”. Many thousands of these pinfire revolvers were imported by both sides. The 12mm Perrin cartridge with unique centerfire setup, was also for revolvers purchased by the North.

.577 caliber Enfield bullets with “1” and “2” in the cavity were made at the Royal Arsenal in Woolwich, as was the .69 caliber Tower bullet with “8” in the base. The calibers of the French pattern bullets have a triangular cavity.

A detailed description of the specimens is pasted to the back of the case. A ready-made bullet collection.  [jet][ph:jet]
