A much-used appendage for all early muzzle loading weapons. This two-piece wiper consists of the small wiper and a stem adapter that would be screwed on to the threaded end of a ramrod. Used to “pull” bullets or to extract cartridge paper and cleaning patches.
Wipers have the appearance of a cork screw. This is an early style, possibly from a cased set. The wiper is screwed upside-down onto the stem adapter for storage (so the tines don't catch on things) and unscrewed, flipped, and screwed onto the adaptor to use. The adapter is female threaded in the base to attach to a ramrod.
Measures nearly 2" long (assembled) x 0.28" in diameter. Condition is excellent.
A very interesting appendage for an early, small bore pistol or county rifle. [jet] [ph:L]
