This horn likely dates to roughly 1750 to 1820 or so, and follows a classic York County style with a domed wood base plug with turned grooves. It features no turned grooves around the base of the horn itself. The spherical wood base plug is turned with a graduated series of grooves creating a beehive effect terminating at a raised "button" as a place to attach a shoulder strap.
At the opposite end, the horn features a "shoulder" cut into it forming a place to attach the other end of a shoulder strap.
The condition and color of the wood and the horn is very good. This is a very attractive, classic American powder horn. [jet] [ph:L]
