Offered here is an exceptional and very early gang mold for round musket balls of varying calibers.
Made of brass and measuring 6.5" long without the wood handles that would have been added to the arms. This is constructed slightly different than other molds. Instead of the two halves being mirror images and "sharing" a central hinge pin at the end, here the left half has a small "arm" pinned fast at a right angle and sticking out about a half inch. The right half is cut to accept the "arm" and is pinned through this extension. This mold features the typical long tapered channel on top to funnel lead into the six cavities. The cavities measure approximately 0.62, 0.59, 0.53, 0.52, 0.47, and 0.45.
Cavities remain clean and crisp. Brass has nice dark patina with a few nicks and evidence of sand casting on outer surfaces.
A classic Revolutionary War or 1812-era bullet mold. [jet] [ph:L]
