The full title of this volume is “HISTORY OF THE 88^TH PENNSYLVANIA VOLUNTEERS IN THE WAR FOR THE UNION 1861-1865” by John D. Vautier of Company I.

The history was originally published in 1894 but this reprint is by Butternut Press of Gaithersburg, Maryland in 1986.

Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.00 x 9.00 inches and runs 280 pages with roster. The volume also has 77 black & white illustrations.

Covers and interior are exceptionally clean.

The 88^th Pennsylvania was organized in September of 1861 and served in the 3^rd Corps of Pope’s Army of Virginia and then with the 1^st and 5^th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. They saw action at 2^nd Bull Run, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Wilderness, Spotsylvania, North Anna, Cold Harbor and throughout the siege of Petersburg. The heaviest loss for the regiment occurred at Antietam where they lost 69 killed, wounded and captured. Over the course of its entire service the regiment lost in killed and died of wounds and disease 8 officers and 173 men. [AD] [PH:L]
