The full title of this volume is “HISTORY OF THE NINETY-SEVENTH REGIMENT NEW YORK VOLUNTEERS. (‘CONKLING RIFLES’) IN THE WAR FOR THE UNION.”

The author is Isaac Hall who served as a captain in Company A. The book was published by Butternut & Blue of Baltimore, Maryland in 1991.

Volume is hardcover and meas. approx. 6.25 x 9.25 inches and runs 477 pages with 9 illustrations and 10 maps.

Covers are blue with the title embossed in strong gold with a 2nd Division, 1st Corps badge on the front. Gold lettering and Corps badge are also present on the spine. Both front and back covers show hardly any wear. Binding is excellent.

The 97th New York was raised in February of 1862 and served in the 3rd Corps of Pope’s Army of Virginia and then in the 1stand 5th Corps of the Army of the Potomac. They were engaged at 2nd Bull Run, South Mountain, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, the Wilderness, Spotsylvania, Cold Harbor and the siege of Petersburg. The regiments suffered heavily at Antietam, Gettysburg, the Wilderness and at Weldon Railroad during the Petersburg Campaign. For the war, the regiment’s total loss in killed and died of wounds and disease were 13 officer and 325 enlisted men, not to mention many more wounded and survived.  [AD] [PH:L]
