This is a cartridge developed for the .58 caliber conversions of Civil War rifles produced by the Springfield Armory and civilian contractors in the post-Civil War years. Manufactured by Frankford arsenal, this internally primed center fire cartridge is in excellent condition. As one of the first of the post-Civil War center fire metallic cartridges, these are one of the important Indian War cartridges to add to your collection.
Copper case with rimmed head. Two crimps hold the Benet primer in place. Slightly raised round spot in the center of the head where the primer is located leads to the nick-name “button head” cartridge. Black marker on side of case from previous collector can easily be removed with nail polish remover.
OAL: 1.745”; Case 1.210”. [jet] [ph:L]
