This very large flask has to have been for shotguns. Constructed with a copper body, with brass top and spout. Measures approximately 11” tall x 5” at widest point.

Unadorned body. Thumb tab and spring work well. Large spout is adjustable to four different measures. Top is stamped: “JAMES DIXON / & SONS / SHEFFIELD” on one side of spout and “QUICK LOADING / FIREPROOF” on the other. A few dings and dents to body. Nice age patina.

James Dixon & Sons, was founded in 1806 in Sheffield and was one of the major British manufacturers of the Industrial Revolution. They were manufacturers of pewterware, electroplated Britannia metal, silverware and electroplated nickel silver. Their products included hundreds of items for use in the kitchen (e.g. bowls, cutting-tools) and the dining room (e.g. tea services, cocktail shakers and mixers) as well as items such as candlesticks. They were a world leader in manufacturing shooting accessories through the nineteenth century and exported powder flasks in large quantities to America.    [jet]     [ph:L]
