U.S. 3” HOTCHKISS ARTILLERY SHELL

$245.00 SOLD

Quantity Available: None

Item Code: M26265

This is an excavated specimen and this common size was for the 3” Parrott and ordnance rifles. This shell was fired and retains its lead sabot and base cup. The top half of the zinc fuse adapter is gone.

The lead band shows some evidence of rifling. This type has the smooth body without flame grooves along the sides of the shell. Patent information cast into base cup remains quite clear and mostly readable.

The shell shows some surface pitting as is typical of “dug” relics, but is stable with no active flaking.  Unknown recovery location.    [jet] [ph:L]
