Complete box with lid (still attached on one side) for ten Sharps cartridges. Box is opened but otherwise in excellent condition with perfect label.
A single original cartridge remains in the box as does the original pack of 12 percussion caps. The cartridge is for the .52 caliber Sharps carbine or rifle. The cartridge case is rolled of fine linen and tissue paper was glued to close the back end. This tube was then filled with gun powder and glued to the bullet. Upon firing, the percussion cap burnt through the tissue paper and ignited the charge and propelling the bullet. The paper and linen were expected to be totally consumed during firing.
This cartridge is in good displayable condition although the paper end is open and the gun powder is gone. The box, cartridge and pack of caps made for a perfect display. [jet]
