This iron mold was designed to cast a single .58 caliber picket bullet, sometimes called a “sharpshooter’s bullet” by collectors. The bullets cast by this mold had a conical point atop a cylindrical base with parallel sides, but with no cannelures and a solid base. The mold handles were designed to be used without wooden grips, having rounded tips, but are made long, 7 inches and 6.75”, to dissipate the heat from the poured lead. The sprue-cutter with a pour hole operates with a shorter handle.
This is in very good condition, the parts move freely, and it is a scarce mold for a scarce bullet. [sr]
