Non-dug cartridge for Burnside carbine. This easily recognized cartridge was made of drawn brass and features the “swell” around the bullet at the case mouth. This swell held lubricant and was patented by George P. Foster (#27,791 dated April 10, 1860). Lead bullet shows no corrosion and the brass case is solid but one side shows some darkening, perhaps from getting wet at some time. A nice cartridge.
