Weapon is .52 and serial number 83917. Walnut butt stock and forend are dark. No inspector cartouche visible. Wood surfaces have numerous small dings and dents. Forend has thin carving on the left side that reads “CAL 52.” From the lettering style this appears to be period. There is a very thin surface crack running on either side of the heel. On both sides it starts at the edge of the butt plate and goes forward approx. 5.00 inches and meets on the underside of the stock. This is a tight closed crack and should not get any worse unless the weapon is fired or dropped, neither of which we recommend. Butt plate and patchbox are case hardened with some light case colors left but turning mostly dark. Case hardened lockplate, breechblock and receiver are mostly turning gunmetal gray but some case color remains. Receiver appears to have been lightly cleaned. Markings on lock and receiver are readable. Bottom of receiver on left side has some small scratches. Action works well. Hammer holds at half and full cock. Original nipple is slightly smashed and clogged. Barrel retains 65%-70% of the original blue. Stamping between rear sight and breech is readable. The stamping forward of the rear sight is very thin. Flip up rear sight is complete with slide. Bore is fairly clean and rifling is good
