Civil War Spencer carbine in good condition. Walnut stock and forend have numerous minor dings and dents consistent with use. There is one thin, closed crack running from the receiver tang on the wrist for a distance of 2.25 inches. No visible inspector’s cartouche. Small amount of case-colors remains on buttplate, lever and hammer. Receiver and lock have turned dark. Serial number is 48162. Top of receiver is stamped “SPENCER REPEATING RIFLR CO. BOSTON, MASS. PAT’D MARCH 6, 1860.” This stamping is in three lines. The right half of all three lines is a little thin. 22.00 inch barrel. No bluing left. Surface is “gun metal” gray as is lone barrel band. Sling swivel is present at butt. Saddle ring and bar are also present opposite the lock. Bar has brass repair to one end. Proper rear sight is present. Action works well and is crisp. Holds half and full cock. Magazine withdraws and returns with ease. Bore is good with good rifling but needs cleaned. No rust or pitting is visible.
