Produced by the Spencer Rifle Company of Boston, Massachusetts, this Spencer breechloading repeating carbine is in very good condition. Carbine, which fired the .50 caliber Spencer rimfire cartridge, has a 20” long barrel and a two-piece black walnut stock.
Barrel wears a nice dark gray color. Has the large folding rear sight with slide and the “lug/blade” front sight. Dark pewter/gray color on the receiver. Hammer and lockplate of matching color. Bore has original six-groove rifling that is sharp. Bore is bright and clean. Wood is original with minor dings, scratches, and small chips. Stock is solid in every way. No inspector cartouches. Top flat of the receiver, forward of the hammer, is stamped with “SPENCER REPEATING / RIFLE CO. BOSTON MASS / PAT’D. MARCH 6, 1860” No “M1865” stamp visible. Serial #5580 is located at the top rear of the receiver near the hammer.
Original sling bar and sling ring are tightly secured to the left side of stock. Retains the single swivel near the stock toe. All metal surfaces of the carbine are clean and smooth and appear to have seen light use. Original magazine tube and spring. Mechanics are crisp and strong. A pleasing and classic M1865 Spencer carbine in nice condition. [jet] [ph:L]
